Pemberton is a very unique and picturesque country town situated in some of the South West’s most stunning Karri, Marri and Jarrah forests. It is a very popular tourist destination and stop-over for travellers with lots of attractions and beautiful scenery. It is a perfect place to photograph landscapes.
Close to town is the Pemberton Tramway and Railway Station. Here visitors can take a tram ride through the magnificent forests in the area. The journey crosses six bridges over rivers and streams and stops at the Cascades waterfalls. Back at the Station, there are plenty of old locomotives and carriages which are well worth a look.
Big Brook Dam is just a few kilometres outside of town and is a perfect haven to spend a few hours or even a whole day. It is a man-made dam with picnic facilities and a beach. Sealed pathways provide easy walking access around the dam. Big Brook Dam is a great spot to have a barbecue and a swim in a beautiful Karri tree setting.
Nearby is the Gloucester National Park, which includes several tourist attractions including three climbable Karri trees, over 60m tall, with lookouts at the top. These include the Gloucester Tree which is only about a minute outside of Pemberton as well as the Diamond Tree and Bicentennial Tree. The Beedelup Falls in the Beedelup National Park is also worth a visit. After viewing the waterfall you can then walk across a suspension bridge over the water. The Heartbreak Trail is just off the Old Vasse Road in the Warren National Park. It offers great views of the Warren River as well as campgrounds next to the water. You can also take a swim or go for a paddle in a kayak. A little further along the Old Vasse Road is the turn-off to the Yeagarup Sand Dunes which is a very popular 4WD destination in the D’Entrecasteaux National Park.
