Locations

Bremer Bay is a small coastal town on the southern coastline of WA, east of Albany. Best known for its spectacular coastline, it attracts tourists looking for a peaceful retreat from the masses. It’s 180km east of Albany within the Jerramungup Shire. Originally named by Surveyor General John Septimus Roe, after Captain James John Gordon Bremer, who he served for between 1824 and 1827. Officially named as Wellstead in 1951, it was changed to Bremer Bay in 1962 after a local petition.

It is known for great swimming beaches, whale watching, bush walks, surfing and fishing. The area is rich in extensive flora and fauna, especially being right on the edge of the southern end of the Fitzgerald River National Park. Point Ann and the Wellstead Estuary are also worth a visit for incredible scenery as well as whale and bird watching. There are wildflowers all year round, and over 100 species of bird in the area of which 55 are migratory birds.
The various beaches include Blossoms Beach, Little Boat Harbour, Fishery Beach, Short Beach to name a few. These locations are easily accessible with a 2WD vehicle but a trip out to Point Ann is on a gravel road that does not require 4WD. There is an abundance of beach access for 4WD vehicles and more remote beaches for those who are experienced in offroad driving.

Another popular local attraction is the Bremer Bay Canyon, which hosts an abundance of amazing marine life and can be accessed by daily tours. The Canyon features over two dozen deep-water rifts running to the continental shelf. The amount of whale activity in the area unusual though, and has become a very popular attraction. It’s located 70km offshore from Bremer Bay and is a great way to get up close to Southern Right whales and Orcas.
