Walpole is a sleepy coastal town in the Southern Forests region, surrounded by the Walpole-Nornalup Inlet, and the Walpole-Nornalup National Park. It’s a popular holiday and travel destination, with lots to do, especially for those who like to explore the natural wilderness. It’s a great place to go boating, fishing, and bushwalking, or take a scenic drive through the surrounding forests.
It’s a captivating area, especially for landscape photography, with so many unspoilt views. Some popular spots include the Broke Inlet, Peaceful Bay, Conspicuous Cliff, and Mandalay Beach which is known as the location of the Norwegian Shipwreck, Mandalay, which was wrecked in 1911, and occasionally, small fragments of the wreckage, become visible as sand is washed away in winter. Most of the coastline near Walpole is rugged, with rough seas.
The forests around Walpole are equally as impressive, with the Giant Tingle Tree and Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk not far away. Circular Pool, Mount Frankland, and Fernhook Falls are also worth a look. There are lots to explore in the Walpole-Nornalup National Park, with its Karri and Tingle forests, and abundant coastal spectacles, as well as the nearby Shannon National Park, which is known for some of the best Karri forests in the Southern Forests region. There are endless photo opportunities in this area of rich natural beauty.
